DR. ONAH BENJAMIN EMENIKE Dr. Onah Benjamin Emenike is a distinguished Nigerian academic, biochemist, educator, and researcher with extensive experience in teaching, scientific research, and higher education administration. He is currently a Lecturer II in the Department of Biochemistry at the State University of Medical and Applied Sciences (SUMAS), where he contributes to the training of future scientists and healthcare professionals through teaching, research, and mentorship. Born in Edem-Umabor, Eha-Alumona, Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State, Nigeria, Dr. Onah is married and has remained committed to academic excellence and professional development throughout his career. He obtained his Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Degree in Biochemistry from the University of Nigeria in 2004. Driven by a passion for scientific inquiry and education, he further earned a Master of Science (M.Sc.) Degree in Biochemistry from the same institution in 2012. To strengthen his pedagogical competence, he obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, between 2012 and 2014. In 2023, he successfully completed his Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Medical Biochemistry from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. Dr. Onah's professional career spans nearly two decades across secondary, technical, health, and tertiary education sectors. He commenced his teaching career during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) year in 2005 at Community Secondary School, Adeh, Kogi State. He subsequently served as a Senior Chemistry Teacher under the Post Primary School Management Board at Community Secondary School, Alor-Uno, Enugu State, from 2009 to 2023, where he played a significant role in shaping young minds in the sciences. His academic experience also includes serving as a Practical Demonstrator in the Faculty of Biological Sciences at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, between 2008 and 2012. From 2015 to 2023, he lectured in several health-training institutions, including DAVMAXSUN School of Health Technology, Obukpa, where he taught Pharmacology, Structural Chemistry, and Physical Chemistry. During the same period, he served as a Lecturer in General Chemistry at the School of Medical Laboratory Technician, Bishop Shanahan Hospital, Nsukka. Between 2021 and 2023, he was a Lecturer in Applied Chemistry for Midwifery students at the College of Nursing, Department of Midwifery, Bishop Shanahan Specialist Hospital, Nsukka. As a researcher, Dr. Onah has made notable contributions to the fields of Medical Biochemistry, Enzymology, and Biomedical Sciences. His scholarly works have been published in reputable national and international journals. His research interests include enzyme purification and characterization, biochemical toxicology, medicinal biochemistry, and drug discovery. Among his notable publications are studies on indigenous lipases and amylases from African food crops, biochemical assessment of aluminum toxicity, and investigations into Plasmodium falciparum triosephosphate isomerase as a potential therapeutic target in antimalarial drug development.
