Biography

Ugwuja, Emmanuel Ike is a Professor of Clinical/Medical Biochemistry with bias in Nutrition and Toxicology. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry and Mater of Science degree in Chemical Pathology both from the University of Ibadan and a Doctor of Philosophy degree (Ph.D.) in Biochemistry from Ebonyi State University. As a trained Scientist with diverse backgrounds, he services Departments of Chemical Pathology, Medical Laboratory Science and Biochemistry; his parent Department, where he teaches undergraduate and graduate students. He was a former Examination Officer, Department of Chemical Pathology, former Postgraduate Coordinator in the Department of Biochemistry, Head of Department of Chemical Pathology, Enugu State University College of Medicine, Head, Department of Biotechnology, Ebonyi State University and former Senate Committee on Core Curriculum and Minimum Academic Standard (CCMAS), Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki. He currently heads the Department of Biological Sciences, State University of Medicine and Applied Sciences, Igbo-Eno, Enugu State and the Chairman, SUMAS Senate Committee on Core Curriculum and Minimum Academic Standard (CCMAS). He has supervised 4 PhD and 6 Master students. He belongs to a number of Professional Associations including Nigerian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (NSBMB), Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS, UK), West African Society of Toxicology (WASOT), and Society for Basic and Clinical Toxicology of Nigeria (SBCTN). He is a reviewer to reputable journals including Nigerian Journal of Clinical Practice, Nigerian Journal of Biotechnology, Trace Elements, Annals of Medical and Health Science Research, International Journal of Medicine and Medical Sciences. He heads the Nutrition and Toxicology Research Team at Ebonyi State University Abakaliki. His current project involves investigating the use of nutrients and functional foods in mitigating heavy metal toxicity. He has over 72 scholarly articles in national and international peer-reviewed Journals. He is happily married to his heartthrob; Ijeoma and the marriage is blesses with children
